It seems we are all resolving to make better food choices this time of year.  Hard not to with everyone promoting healthier lifestyle choices.  But keep in mind that there is an easy way to keep up those resolutions year-round by just substituting Norbest all natural, lean ground turkey breast in all your favorite ground meat recipes. This low-calorie recipe for Turkey Burritos is quick to prepare, and using ground turkey breast you can enjoy the flavor of all these yummy spices without the guilt of extra calories.


Turkey Burritos

Serves 8 (serving size: 1 burrito)



  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1.25 lbs. Norbest 99% lean ground turkey breast
  • 1.5 cups onion chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 3 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 cup chicken stock, unsalted
  • Juice of 1 fresh lime
  • ½ cup cooked rice
  • 8 whole-wheat tortillas (8-inch)
  • 8 tablespoons reduced-fat sour cream
  • 3/4 cup shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • Lime wedges


Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Coat the pan with oil and add ground turkey and onion; cook approximately 4 minutes, stirring until browned. Add seasonings and cook an additional 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in chicken stock and lime juice; bring to a boil. Simmer 3 minutes or until liquid begins to thicken, then add the pre-cooked rice.  Keep an eye on the time as you cook, and keep an instant-read thermometer handy. To prevent dry meat, cook ground turkey until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.  Heat tortillas according to package directions. Spread 1 tablespoon reduced-fat sour cream over each tortilla. Divide turkey mixture evenly among tortillas; sprinkle evenly with reduced-fat cheese and chopped tomato. Roll burritos then serve with lime wedges.
