It may seem like a silly question, but often our holidays have odd names and not-so-obvious meanings.

It’s a fair question as Labor Day peaks around the corner. You get the day off from work, but why? It’s not as complicated as you might think. It’s a day to honor those who work and contribute to the well-being of the country. It’s also considered the unofficial end of summer. Canada also celebrates Labor Day with us on Monday.  But we aren’t the only ones to celebrate the country’s laborers and contributors. More than 80 countries around the world celebrate International Workers Day on the 1st of May, with many other countries choosing their own days.

At Norbest, it’s another opportunity to spend time with friends and family and fire up the grill for one last summer barbeque. The Labor Day weekend barbeque is one to remember- it’s our farewell to summer (unofficially). And because there are only a few more barbeques left in the season, we recommend pulling out all the stops. We suggest our Turkey Burger with Bacon to please the whole party – because bacon makes everything better. Serve with your classic Labor Day BBQ fixin’s – potato salad, chips, watermelon, and more!
